Writeup:

UK over CfH

This was certainly one of the most intense matches I've played, if boring occasionally on defense. First things first: thanks to everyone who played, -UK- and -[CfH]- for such a great game.

Each team had the same lineup for the 3 rounds. -UK- had a Super Smash Brothers theme for the night with X` and WarHound playing as the Ice Climbers (Nana and Popo) on offense with -CJ- helping as a pretend Dr. Mario. On defense we had Maruku/Sheik playing the fat man in the spiral hallway, CapnChaos/Luigi playing around in the lift as soldier and myself (Dramling) engineering as Mr. Game & Watch, employing all the techniques he learned while defending a fort from Native Americans (actually happened. look it up).

Anyways, in Round 1 one of their defenders timed out which let us sneak out a cap pretty early on. After that cap, which raised everyone?s hopes for a while, both defenses held strong and kept the flags under close and vicious guard. We in the -UK- basement had our own tough time of things keeping out medics, a soldier, pyro, demo, and spy at varying times but every time managed to hold on to the flag through thick and thin.
Round ends: -UK- 10, -[CfH]- 0

Round 2 saw trouble from the start for us in -UK-. Our ninja-esque Sheik vanished and it took a little while before we noticed. The sudden loss of a HW caused mass chaos and confusion and, despite one of our offense dropping back to cover while we waited for Sheik, -[CfH]- pushed us hard and got out with the flag quickly. Soon after, Sheik popped back in muttering something about Steam and Ventrilo killing each other. Again, one of their defenders timed out and this time they pulled a man back from offense to help. I decided to try swinging but even the extra offense couldn?t pull the flag from the tight grasp of -[CfH]-.
Round ends: -UK- 0, -[CfH]- 10

With the two rounds resulting in a tie at one cap each, we suddenly faced every lazy TFCer?s worst nightmare: an overtime on a map that could easily end up going for many more rounds. Given that both the previous flag caps had come from people timing out, we didn?t know if anyone would score with all of the defenders staying in the game. Fortunately everyone was able to stay for one more round and, for the third time of the night, we all piled in -[CfH]-?s server to prepare ourselves for the unknown.

Sunday night, -UK- went into overtime on waterwheel_l. That round lasted all of 10 seconds, maybe less. For two OT rounds in 2 matches, I don?t think we could have picked two more different experiences, save a multi-OT night here instead of just one. The round started similar to the others except for an eerie prediction by CJ/Dr. Robotnic of -[CfH]- running 4 offense and letting our offense overwhelm the remaining 2 defenders. Sure enough, we suddenly found ourselves facing 4 offense in the -UK- basement. We were nearly done in by the flood of enemies to the basement but, in a miraculous hold, the three of us stopped the flag at the bottom of the spiral and held it till it returned. Like in CJ?s prediction, our offense eventually pulled the flag from their weakened defense and ran it out for a cap to end the night, much to our relief.

Tonight was a blast, albeit a rather stressful one. I?d like to again thank all those who played tonight from -UK- and -[CfH]- for such a great title match. We always seem to have close matches with you guys. Good luck in the future and let?s meet again.
-UK-: WarHound, X`, CJ, Maruku, CapnChaos, Dramling
-[CfH]-: jarret4, Dark Applepolisher, Controlled Chaos, Toughsox, Darkwing, Chips
