STA SILVER ACTION -SIN- vs =S=
Usually people use the write-ups to describe the action in the match that was just played. I'd like to take this opportunity to tell a tale. It starts off one fine afternoon almost three years ago. On that day I went into a Electronic Boutique looking for a game to buy, One box stuck out from the rest, Half Life , Game of the Year edition featuring TFC. Having never played a FPS game I almost pasted it by. But on a whim I decided to purchase it. After bringing it home and struggling to rip it free from the Adult proof vapour sealed packaging the game was installed. A couple of minutes later I was roaming through the server listings, a little apprehensive about what I would find. Not really sure what those little green dots meant I went into servers basically at random. Not knowing I was about to set into motion events that would alter my leisure time activities for the next three years. (and more)
People were firing at team-mates, jumping around, swearing at each other, making fun of people like me.(newbs was a word I came to despise) I had given up the game for good, figuring if I wanted to be called names and treated like that I could always become a Hockey Referee for some Bantom league. Anyways a couple of weeks go by and I decide to give it another chance. I come a cross this server -SIN- Cubis. I go in and am amazed at what im seeing. People actually playing offence, people actually letting team-mates pass in front of them without shooting at them. I wonder to myself what is going on here?? The answer presents itself very quickly, one Player seems determined to kill me, even though he is on my team. Then like a voice from the Gods the server speaks to this Player. "Team Killing in not permitted in this server" Not really sure where that came from or who has the audacity to question him Player continues his murderous Rampage. He is quickly booted from the server. Over then next few days I saw this repeated everytime A member of -SIN- was on the server. Anytime something was done to reduce the enjoyment of people there for fun, the offender was kicked. After a week or so, I built up enough confidence to actually speak on the server ( this of course is before the voice comms)
My every question was answered helpfully, I began to enjoy TFC more and more. Over the next weeks I began to get to know some regulars better and better. Van Dam, Spatchy, ButterBean, SexKitten and priest. No one cared that I sucked. No one cared that I couldn't rocket jump. All they cared about was having fun and helping a newbie have fun too.
After our match tonight, I began to wonder. I wondered how many other TFCers are out there that still play this game because of -SIN- or clans like them. -SIN- to me embodies all that is good about this game. They sacrificed their time to help me enjoy this game and I'm sure they did the same for others. TFC is the game that it is because of -SIN- and clan like them. Without them new players would probably just not even bother. Although I've never told them this -SIN- has shaped my TFC life, made me think this game was about more then just winning and losing. Its about the relationships you make along the way. I have made good friends over the years.
Thanks for the game guys, and I'm not talking about our match tonight.
