Writeup:

nLv over @

Despite my undying love for redeye (especially Jester), I might have to make this a bit shorter than usual, as once again, I'm expecting people over in a few minutes. Plus, I'm on the verge of starting my spring break... and I'd get made fun of (not like I already do), if I told people I celebrated the first few hours of spring break playing TFC and doing a writeup. With that said... onward!

It's been a while since we played redeye last. Hands down one of the most respected clans in TFC today, and rightly so. I'd been looking forward to tonight all week.

Round 1
-------
Unbeknownst to me, I'm not the only one starting spring break. I get to IRC around 8:00 EST and find that 4 of our 10 active players aren't gonna be here. I become faced with 2 options:

1.) Try to finish the esk_escape puzzle map series with metallix and sid.
2.) Try to find enough players to play redeye

It's spring break, like I said, so... there was fun to be had. So we goofed off on esk_escape until 8:50 rolled around and I remembered... oh yeah, TFL! So off to IRC I head. We have a whopping 5 people ready to play. Sponge fell asleep in his own filth, watching soap operas, and is nowhere to be found.

9:00 EST rolls around and we decide we have to head in, 8 players or not. We make it in with 5, waiting on rebs to join. BUt something's up with his steam account(s) and he gets banned. Oops! At least we know RingerFree works like it's supposed to :D Sponge shows up last minute and fills in for us on D.

Things get started and redeye catches us off guard. A scout hops his way down the elevator (I THINK?!) and before I even realize that I just heard the The Enemy Has Your Flag noise, he's up and out the spiral. I turned left instead of turning right to shoot their scout on his way out (because I'm not an ambi-turner), and he makes off with a quick first cap for redeye.

Meanwhile, our two man offense consisting of metallix and sid (but mainly metallix... because let's be honest... sid... nevermind) makes a quick pull on redeye's flag. As would later become the trend for the rest of the round - met and sid keep making touches and pulls, but don't quite seal the deal too often. Apparently some fantastico redeye soldier (darkreign :o) was giving them problems and making them cranky like Lonewolf used to be during that special time of the month.

Redeye fails to realize in rd1 that our major weakness is the spiral. I'm playing D soldier there and I'm laughable at best. On the few runs they make down the spiral, sub is there to pick up the bits and pieces that I leave leftover for him. Meanwhile he also handles a boatload of incomings down the elevator ... and handles them WELL! Chicken runs engy for us and between watching me make a fool of myself trying to pretend I know how to aim my rocket launcher, and getting his own sexy shotties on the remaining redeye offense, he still has the time to raise a family of SG's, Dispensers and Teleporters. God bless that profound poultry!

Sponge, meanwhile, is taking numbers in the RR, obviously doing an awesome job of shutting down the spiral and forcing most of the redeye O to go face to face with the evil Sub.

Our offense, although I wasn't there to see it, takes a lead pretty soon and holds it for much of the round.

It's 2-2 (or maybe 3-1... I forget) when redeye pulls a quick one out on us. They battle their way out our spiral and we stop them barely in our RR with it. Sub and Chicken go to watch the FR while Sponge and I do what we can to hold it. Sponge cleans house in the front yard stopping them in their tracks, and I make a miracle stop on a quick redeye medic who came inches from making a cap-saving touch. The flag finally returns.

nLv pulls in one final flag with a few minutes remaining to seal the round in our favor.

As I told redeye (and as I'm sure most of them realized), I'm a terrible Soldier when I don't have grenades ... well, I guess I'm pretty terrible WITH them too. So when Finchy came down the elevator, hopping around quick like a bunny and freezed in mid-air on his way to our FR, I had no choice but to whip out my salad fork and crowbar him.

Tonight was the TFC equivalent of my Bar Mitzvah. I'm so proud to finally join the ranks of Defensive crowbar kills (even if I had to pick on poor, lagged Finch :[ ).

Round 1 comes to a close end, and we are by no means feeling very secure about our lead, due to our 6 players. We head back to IRC hoping a miracle 7th player showed up.

Rd1 Offense: metallix, sid
Rd1 Defense: me, sub, sponge, chicken
Rd1 Score: 3-2 nLv!

Round 2
-------
Back in IRC we try to figure out what happened to our beloved hams hamsa, Rebs, who got banned at the start of Rd1. For some reason he wasn't using his same account as usual. We get him to switch back to his original, yet, as he told me, he was still kicked from the server? I dunno... :

Anyways, Whore comes to save the day and downloads the map (finally) to play with us rd2. For some ungodly reason, I get stuck playing Sol at the spiral again while Whore gets to O with Sid and Metallix.

This round isn't much different than rd1, but the redeye offense throws just about everything they've got at us. After a quick rush by redeye, which yields no touches, nLv takes the lead at the beginning of this one. Redeye appears to be throwing a bit more at me in the spiral, and I start off something like 14-2. I start thinking Holy shit, maybe I'm really not that bad! Then they actually start playing :[

Eventually demos, soldiers, pyros, medics and scouts are finding their way down our elev and spiral. Sub, as usual, is doing most of the dirty work, and against a seemingly improved offense, we work pretty well together down there. Chicken plays backup and gets some nice saves for us as well, while sponge stops the bulk dead in its tracks in the ramp room.

Our new and improved offense keeps making touches and pulls and finally brings a second one home for us. Redeye retalliates with a nice, quick pull out the spiral, which we stop and eventually hold on to. After that scare, our O picks up another one to hopefully seal redeye's fate for rd2 as well. But in the waining minutes of rd2, redeye does SOMETHING (I have no idea what!) that totally tears right through us. Sub and I both go down and chicken's teleporter's down! The SG goes down a moment later and out comes redeye with a flag!

We stop it in the spiral, but then a medic... and another medic (or sol/demo/scout/pyro?) pick it up again and move it out. They take that one home... and then, much to our chagrin, get a RELAY on us. Our D is collapsing (I think perhaps sponge went offense... but I wasn't really paying enough attention to realize it).

Redeye gets a serious shot at tieing the round and even the match with this burst of momentum at the end of rd2, but it simply came a bit too late. Their 2nd cap dies in their yard, right in front of their battlements. Sub defends it on his own for a while before I realize that the guy saying It's in their yard is sub, and not sid. So we all pile out into the yard, spam it up, and save that one from going home.

Despite the odds, we pulled this one off.

Rd2 Offense: metallix, sid, whore
Rd2 Defense: sub, sponge, me, chicken
Rd2 Score: 30-10 nLv!

Final
-----
There was a little confusion at the start of rd2. Outex was playing swing Soldier, apparently. We weren't sure what the deal was, so we asked and got told no mm1. For the most part, we bit our own tongues and refrained from saying the same thing later on when their guys mm1'd, and turning things a bit more ugly than they could have been.

Other than that, a clean, fun round. With 2 offense we pulled 3 caps against them, and we were sure we could get more with 3, but they held strong and kept us from getting anywhere near last week's scores. Meanwhile our makeshift D [sponge and sub were the only DEFENSIVE PLAYERS that were actually playing D. I'm terrible, and Chicken plays about once ever 3 months] has a miracle match, holding redeye to only 3 caps total.

Perhaps tonight's result lies in my own awesomeness? I think so.

In any case, a very fun match, despite our short # of players. A nice win to kick off spring break for most of us. Now that I think about it... I'm not going to be here next Thurs, along with quite a few of our guys... I wonder what's going to happen if we request a bye for our title defense? lol... on SCRUMMAGE no less!?! Oh well, such is life.

Great game Redeye!

Final Score: 60-30 nLv!
