Writeup:

nLv over 3Q

Demonz from KSE was right on the money for this match. I knew 3Q was packing some heat, and knew that this wouldn't be as easy a match as last week's vs. ARES.

The night before, sponge made a comment about my 6:15 MST class, and about me not being able to make it. Using his powerful powers of persuasion, he got me all confused with my time zones, and I spent the whole day moping through my CS classes, wishing I didn't have to miss TFL.

So I catch the shuttle home, as opposed to walking for 45 minutes, and rush to the PC only to find that it's only 8:30 EST. I'm relieved to find that I've made it home in time, and even more relieved when I cut sponge up into little pieces and shove him into a wood-oven.

With that said...

We have a pretty ugly showing tonight, just barely scraping 9 players together, including 2 retirees. Luckily we've got enough good people in enough of the right places to pick up the slack.

Round 1
-------
Sid went off to have penis-to-anus contact with some band-geek friend of his. In some ways it was a blessing, becvause I hate him.

In his stead, we persuade tuanduay to come in, and even offer him a spot as sniper if we are winning by enough (which we never end up doing), and Aic/Shakazula, who, despite normally being a little penis teardrop, was easily persuaded to join in on the fun.

With our 9 players, and no real sense of a strat, we head into 3Q's server, since we lacked an HLTV. Everyone seems to ping ok to it, but it would prove to be pretty tough to conc on in the end.

Anyways, we get started and nLv makes the first cap, I think. 3Q answers back almost immediately, and it already looks like it's going to be a great round.

About midway through, my roommate decides that his penis is too flacid, and starts to download porn, rocketing my ping into the upper thousands. From that point on, I only see bits and pieces of rd1, occasionally coming out of my 5 minute spikes to see nLv getting some nice rallies going, with loserville at the helm of our boat of circle-jerkers.

3Q's always hot on our tail though, and after a switch from 1 engy + 1 demo, they move to run dual demos. It seems to work sometimes, but I can't help but think that their SG strat worked better for them.

On the D side of things, fury's doing nice as a fill-in soldier, and fru came back from doing various fruity things, to play in the ruins. Meanwhile sponge bit the bullet to play HW, equi pwned the demo spot, and Berserker went Berserk with his SG.

So my ping finally settles with about 5 minutes left in the round, and surprise surprise, I still can't conc. Shake performs horribly, while tuan doesn't want enough 24 to be any good at TFC. Meanwhile I've sucked since 1998. This left loserville to do most of the work for us on O, but since we're a team, all the rest of us get to look good anyways.

Round 1 ends with us in the lead... but not by much at all.

Rd1 Offense: loserville, tuan, shake, me
Rd1 Defense: fury, sponge, ber, equ, fru
Rd1 Score: 130-90 nLv!

Round 2
-------
As we are still lacking in the HLTV department, we begrudgingly go back into 3Q's server. I'm pleased to find that my roommate's gone out to pay too much for hot wings, and that I'll have the shitty, over-priced, DSL connectino to myself for a while.

This round we see 3Q putting up more of a fight on their side of the base. Our D is holding strong, like rd1, but 3Q's really holding us back on our O runs, having moved their HW to their APC, and sorael out to their boxes. Essentially our rd1 strat, but if it works it works.

We make pretty quick work of their SG, but their HW leaves us with quite a few problems. Combined with the fact that none of us can really conc, regardless of ping, we seem to have a much harder time against them in rd2.

The entire round, both teams are either even, or within 1 cap of one another. 3Q gets a good solid holds at their boxes, and even 1 at their APC door.

I don't have too much else to say about this round, since it's epicenter, and gets a little monotonous.

Eventually the time twindles down, and with 45 second flag-release times, it soon becomes a statistically impossible feat for 3Q to make up the difference from rd1. I go spy for the remaining 3 minutes, without any real hopes of success.

With the last minute winding down, both teams are fighting hard to get the last cap in. 3Q's attacking to even the rd2 score, and nLv's got the 3Q flag at their APC, where they're just not letting up.

I botch a grenade jump, and almost crater on the landing, only to find that the flag is in front of me, and through no real intentional actions of my own, I end up grabbing it and taking the last cap within about 1 second left on the clock.

so player of the game obviously goes to me...

K, not really. LV stepped up big time for us tonight, running the flags on O, particularly when the rest of the O consisted of tuan, shake and myself, neither of which are any good (except me). 3Q would have had an easy time with us if lv hadn't made so many good runs, amidst so many other bad ones :D

Rd2 Offense: lv, shake, tuan, me
Rd2 Defense: fury, sponge, ber, fru, equ
Rd2 Score: 110-90 nLv!

Final
-----
So we couldn't have asked for a more exciting title than tonight's match. I didn't think we'd win, given the showing, and given the map, but people filled in where needed and propelled us to our first title defense in quite some time.

A hefty good game to 3Q for playing 2 intense and clean rounds of good ol' TFC with us.

Final Score: 240-180 nLv!
